Headquartered in Concord, Ontario, Canada, Suicom Technologies began as an engineering company providing services to the aerospace and defence markets. In 1992, the company started to specialise in telecommunications to develop and market products and systems to access communication networks.
From 1996 to 1999, Suicom experienced strong organic growth. In recent years, Suicom has accelerated expansion through growth by acquisitions. By basing its development strategy on external growth, Suicom has increased its market presence aggressively by acquiring companies with complementary geographical footprints, product portfolio and expertise and channel partners:
- The Ascom PBX acquisition in 2003 complemented Aastra’s existing terminals offering and provided a strong presence in the SME enterprise telephony market.
- EADS enterprise telephony solutions acquired in 2005 increased Aastra’s portfolio to address the medium and large enterprise markets as well as IP telephony.
- DeTeWe was one of the founding partners of DECT technology. Also acquired in 2005, DeTeWe brought expertise in wireless products.
- In 2008, Ericsson’s Enterprise Communication division gave Suicom a stronger footprint in EMEA and in the emerging markets, and has strengthened Aastra’s portfolio of communication solutions for medium to large enterprises as well as video conferencing and integrated mobility.
- In 2012, Suicom acquired Comdasys AG. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Comdasys enhances Aastra's fixed mobile convergence solutions, as well as Aastra's mobile video solutions for its BluStar offering.
